The Church needs a Revival

I was awaken a few times last night singing a song from one of my favorite singers, Lauren Daigle, "Come Alive".  I got to thinking about Revival.  We often times get revival mixed up with regeneration.  Regeneration are for those who have not given their lives to Christ yet.  Revival is for us who have served God for any amount of time.

In my thinking, it seemed that the church today needs a revival.  According to David Hunt (n.d.) there was a warning given at the Azusa Street revival 110 years ago:

1.  An overemphasis on power rather than righteousness.

We are always today trying to become powerful in our walk with God.  We saw this throughout the times of the Kings of Judah in the book of 2 Chronicles.  I would encourage you to read this book.

There were Kings who just wanted the power but turned from following God.  The sad part is that they missed the true power because God has all power.

If we want real power, we should follow Christ and do what he says we should do because He is all powerful.

2. An overemphasis on praise to a God they no longer pray to.

We in the church need a revival of prayer.  Not just get down on our knees and say a few words into the air just to check it of our list.   We need to get back to a relationship with Christ where we want to spend time with Him and in His presence.

Psa 16:11
You will show me the path of life; in Your presence is fullness of joy, at Your right hand there are pleasures forevermore.

There is something about falling in love with Jesus.  His love is so pure and peaceful.  We need to fall in love with Jesus again and the praise we give Him will mean so much more.

3.  An overemphasis on the gifts of the Spirit rather than the Lordship of Christ.

We need a revival of humility understanding that the only person who can do healing and miracles is Jesus.

We get a little like Hezekiah sometimes when God answers our prayers and does the miraculous.  We get puffed up and proud that God hears our prayers instead of understanding we had nothing to do with it.  God only can do the miraculous.  We are just a conduit that He uses.

Lord, help me today to draw closer to you and know who you are remember that you only can do miraculous works.  Help me to give you all glory and honor when you do great things.  Most importantly, Lord, draw me closer to you.  I want to fall in love with you all over again and in a great way.
