We are living in a world where people are men pleasers rather than God pleasers. What I mean by that is that people are looking for the next way to make them feel pleasure or happy.
A person I know keeps talking about going out drinking because their life is so horrible. I asked this person one day, what happens when the alcohol wears off, are your troubles gone as well. This person said no, they are still there so I will just drink again.
What a horrible way to live. Just doing something over and over hoping that it will help to alleviate the hurt and pain.
The truth is there is a better way. Can I tell you that the pain and hurt isn't there anymore? No, absolutely not. But I can tell you that it is a lot easier to deal with when you turn it over to Jesus and depend on Him for your strength to get through it.
The Psalmist understood this:
Psa 16:11 Amplified
You will show me the path of life; in Your presence is fullness of joy, at Your right hand there are pleasures forevermore.
You see, when you let God leads your paths, then you can have joy in His presence and pleasures for eternity.
Moses understood this when he left the palace of Egypt to become like his people who were slaves. He realized where true happiness came from although it took him 80 years to figure it out. He knew there was more than what Egypt could give him. There was a promised Land that flowed with milk and honey. Even though he only got to see it from afar, he obtained a better Land. He walked from this life into eternal life with God, his best friend.
So before turning to temporary pleasures today, try Jesus, He never fails with a good time. However, His good times are eternal.
Thank you Lord for giving me more than just a few minutes or seconds of joy and pleasure. Thank you Lord for giving me an eternal and everlasting joy. Help me today to laugh a lot.
